Happy Independence Day! I personally am celebrating being independent of billable work today by blogging Fortunately, I also came across a very interesting article by Lucian Constantin at Network World regarding a new DDOS method.
I had commented in a previous post about a similar article from Network World a year ago, but my complaint was mostly about the hype regarding the “nefarious” use of SNMP. Today’s article is blissfully low on hype, focusing on the technical aspects of the attack, which uses RIPv1 for amplification. But the article also gives a solid introduction to the mechanics of how such an attack is carried out. I like it so much I may use it as a case study for one of the classes I’m working on…I hope you like it too.
